Party Animal and Cool Hands

I still listen to books on tape while I paint. While painting Cool Hands, I listened to Gray Mountain by Grisham. It's interesting and sad. I'm learning a lot about strip mining. Thanks for looking. Also, I work mostly from photographs and I got these two from Unsplash.

New Paintings

Another Bridgerton painting. Continued obsession with Marlene Dietrich and a rooster with attitude.

Been Thinking about Chickens

I have been thinking about chickens. My grandmother had them and my mother was always picking one up and hugging it, (gross.) Anyway, I guess cats will have to suffice. Still one can dream and paint.

The second painting is a scene from my favorite movie. I think the actress, Jennifer Ehle, who played Elizabeth is wonderful. The sincere, loving expression she gives Mr. Darcy is... sincere and loving. Playing opposite Colin Firth could have helped, maybe a little, perhaps a very little.

Thursday Painters

After a life changing move from Florida to the mountains of Virginia, I was very lucky to find and join a group of plein air artists who meet up on Thursdays at the lovely and awe inspiring Claytor Nature Center. The new director of the center, Jennifer Wills, has invited us to display our paintings in the educational building where they have a taxidermy collection, along with bones, and various and sundry other stuff. I displayed some of my animal paintings and one landscape,  as well. Now that it's getting cold here, Jennifer has allowed us to work inside from the taxidermy. What a treat! I'm developing a drawing class to do just that at the center. Here are some of the animals I drew today:

Now I get that some people would be turned off by this, but I'm so excited to be able to really study these animals. I'll upload some of my latest artwork as soon as I get around to photographing them. PS. If anyone knows what the animal on the left is, let me know.

Happy holidays!

Bridgerton Ball

Glare is driving me crazy! I photographed this painting about 20 times in different places and couldn't get rid of the glare, so I darkened one to better show the darker parts. Any suggestions on how to photograph dark paintings?

Downy Woodpecker

I miss those quiet gray days of falling snow. I'll have to console myself with warm weather and brilliant skies. Do you feel sorry for me?
